Come join our cycling tour and tackle many of the best climbs in the San Diego region. This tour of California includes the spectacular climbs of Mt. Palomar and Mt Laguna along with many others. If you are thinking about doing something this year but just can’t swing something in Europe here is the perfect opportunity to save some dollars and challenge your legs in Southern California. The terrain is considered hilly with varying degrees of short and long climbs. The base mileage each day is between 40 and 60 miles. For details of the routes and additional activities see below. Itinerary

Day 1: Warm-up ride – 20 mi or more

Upon arrival at our hotel located in Downtown San Diego build your bike and take a warm up ride to stretch the legs. Evening, we will talk about the tour and pass out maps. Dinner will be in San Diego’s famous Gaslamp District.

Day 2: Ride from the Beach to the mountains – 60 mi

After breakfast enjoy a picturesque ferry ride across San Diego’s Harbor to the Island of Coronado. We will start out by taking an easy spin past the Famous Hotel Del Coronado and then along the white sand beach of the Silver Strand State Beach. Next we will Pass The Olympic Training Center and head up into the mountains finishing in Alpine.

Day 3: Great Western loop – 40 mi

There is no packing up today as we will stay in Alpine and enjoy one of San Diego’s most popular back country cycling routes; The Great Western Loop. Tonight we will have authentic Mexican food at a local restaurant. Since San Diego borders with Mexico you will find that the foods taste is much better than the “Mexican food" found elsewhere in the USA.

Day 4: Mt. Laguna climb – 70 mi (40 mi option)

Today’s ride will take your breath away as you climb out of Alpine and up Mount Laguna. Mount Laguna is San Diego’s highest mountain summiting at 6000 feet. From the crest of the mountain you will ride along the top of the world overlooking the Borrego Desert floor below. The ride ends in the historical mountain town of Julian, CA. We will stay in a small boutique hotel and enjoy dinner on our own at a local restaurant. Julian is a unique authentically preserved western town that is known for its famous Apple Pie. The downtown streets are full of pie shops, restaurants, antique stores, and art galleries. If you are up for an adventure take a tour through the old gold mine or try your hand at gold panning.

Day 5: Mt Palomar – 50 mi

The ride today is part of the last stage in this years Tour of California and Mount Palomar. Three different routes are available today depending on your desires and energy level. We will end our ride today at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino on the Indian reservation.

Day 6: Mt Palomar to Mission Beach – 65 mi

The ride today will go from the mountains to the sea. You will ride along the California coast line passing through Del Mar, Torrey Pines State Beach and La Jolla, ending at Mission Beach. In the afternoon explore the Mission Beach Boardwalk, or rent a surfboard, and enjoy the beach. Tonight we have dinner together at a local restaurant.

Day 7: Departure

Departure or stay a few extra days and enjoy more of San Diego and surrounding areas.

Note: deposits are refundable within 3 months prior to the tour date minus a $100 processing fee. Final amount will be due 3 months prior to the tour departure date.

Travel insurance … also known as trip insurance, is recommended for anyone traveling in a foreign country. They are relatively low cost and can protect against unexpected cancellations and depending on the company can provide additional medical coverage, property damage, theft etc. For our tours we recommend CSA Travel Protection. Cancellation Policy … In the event that you have to cancel your trip the following rules apply to regularly scheduled tours. Private tours may have additional guidelines.

    • 100% of deposit refunded within 30 day of payment
    • $100 administration fee within 3 months prior to tour start date
    • 50% refund within 1 month prior to the tour start date
    • Medical emergencies are on a case by case bases
    • Travel insurance is always recommended
