Great California experience around beautiful San Diego. This road bike tour is deigned for everyone’s’ enjoyment and does not require big climbs. The tour follows a philosophy of fun without competition and limits of time. Everyday we will cover approximately 80km with the support of our guides and van. During the days of the tour there will time to admire the fantastic landscapes of San Diego, a dream vacation for many people. This time of year it’s possible that we will have 25/30°C temperatures which make San Diego an ideal place to ride this time of the year. We will also have the opportunity to go shopping and see many American brands and Outlet Centers. Every evening we will try a different cuisine to stimulate our taste buds. America is known for having foods from all over the world, all served with an American Flare.

Tour Description

We will meet you at the San Diego Airport, and transport you to your hotel on the beautiful island of Coronado close to the beach. If you arrive early, you may want to visit the Hotel del Coronado. It is one the most famous hotels in the history of the San Diego Area.

Build your bike and take a short ride long the Pacific Ocean. In the afternoon rest on the beach or go shopping. San Diego has many surfers to watch, and is the home to tri-athletes. Tonight we will have a welcome dinner and talk about the tour.

We will ride along the beach, hills, and mountains; across San Diego’s’ rolling hills to the mountain village of Alpine. This evening we will enjoy a well known Mexican Restaurant.

Start from Alpine and ride the route called The “Great Western Tour.” This route is interesting because it is the same road used by many teams, (Discovery Channel, Slip Stream and others) for their "Training Camp" before big events. On this route we will ride through the village of Julian. Julian is an old mining town that is famous for its old western buildings, and for the best “Apple Pie” in all of California. Every year I come to taste it,….it is FANTASTIC!!! This evening we will have a Texas style BBQ dinner.

Start from Alpine and ride down to the ocean. On this route we will find beautiful scenery as we make our way to Carlsbad Village. This afternoon we will go shopping at a big shopping center with many types of outlet shops. This evening we will try American style Chinese food (Very different than you would find in China or Italy!)

 

Today is a Rest day from the bike. After an American "Grand Slam" breakfast, at a breakfast only restaurant, we will go to Los Angeles. We will make stops in Venice Beach, and Malibu. In the evening we will eat in a Hollywood Restaurant close to the "Walk of Stars". In Venice Beach we will encounter many “strange” people and many artists from everywhere in the world. We will also get to see “Muscle Beach” where Arnold Schwarzenegger became famous.

Today we will offer two routes depending on your desires. The long loop will go to the top of Floyd Landis’ favorite climb Mt. Palomar. The short loop will ride through Rancho Santa Fe (a very nice and wealthy area) and then go back to the beach. You are free to do as you please this afternoon.

Today we will ride along the beach to Downtown San Diego; this ride is flat to rolling. We will see many tri-athletes and surfers along the way. When we arrive in San Diego, we will leave the bikes at hotel and go Downtown for shopping and sightseeing. This evening we will go to Old Town where we will finish the tour at restaurant that was voted “The Best Mexican Restaurant in San Diego.”
