About the photograph: This picture captures the north side of Italy’s highest pass, the Stelvio. Climbing this pass will test your legs with its 48 picturesque switchbacks, and 6000 feet of elevation gain. The pass was first climbed in the Giro d'Italia in 1953 and was made famous after Fausto Coppi's victory. At the top there are breathtaking views of the Italian and Swiss Alps, and a memorial to Coppi. Stelvio Pass - 2,758 m (9046 feet) |
